The problem is that these other sizes are not standard except for the thumbnail, secondarythumbnal and original. All other sizes are optional so I can't rely on them being there. Secondly, CS give me all original pictures as soon as I connect so the originals are already there. It is easy to change this behaviour of CS but it would require an update of the CS server software and not everybody is able or willing to install a third-party update on CS. So an option would be to humbly get the CS guys to change CS and at the same time allow the thumbnail and the secondarythumbnail to be selected right now.

Good sugestion! I'll see what I can do.

User Forum: DIfferent image sizes?

When I want to reference an image it only ever allows me to use "original image" not the usual list of "thumb, small, medium" etc

While not a huge issue (I usually just edit the HTML or fix it up in the web CS interface) it's a pain for layout - would like it to be seamless - got too used to Flickr4Writer I guess ;)

After I clicked "Upload image ..." link label, before upload image form appear.

BTW, I would like to suggest, let user to upgrade for new release directly instead of require user to uninstall plugin first and install the new one.

Sure.
I just found out that, my administrator didn't create any gallery folder for me. That cause error reported in previous post occured. After administrator created one for me, it just works fine.

User Forum: RE: Error when click upload images ...

Of course you are right that there should be a nice message! The problem solved. Thank you

However, I hit another error as below. I copied Service url from my setting, pasted it to my browser. I am able to access to web service page. I am not sure if it is caused by community server provider permission. I will check out with administrator.

I do think it is good to have error handling to show user friendly error message instead of exception dialog box. :)

To enable assembly bind failure logging, set the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog] (DWORD) to 1.
Note: There is some performance penalty associated with assembly bind failure logging.
To turn this feature off, remove the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog].

It behaves as follows: as soon as you select an album in the gallery browser a seperate thread starts loading pictures.
It isn't threadsafe yet (needs some locking) so no release now.

A bad thing about this is that the plugin will download the entire gallery...

As far as I can see there is no other way to facilitate asynchronous communication with the web service.

The best way would be for the service to allow a download of all thumbnails per album (this would reduce bandwidth enormously)

An extra option would be to be able to download the thumbnails in batches because a single album of thumbnails can still be huge.

Let me know what you think.

Project Management Forum: RE: Helping out...

One other thing: the biggest problem with the current Gallery service is that it forces you to download all picture in a certain album. That is actually what is slowing things down. If only there was a way of getting just thumbnails or id's so the image itself could be retrieved later on (asynchronously)

Pure asynchronously call from within the plugin will not help anything when the gallery is still slow.

Currently I am investigating how to load (and cache) the pictures from unbrowsed albums on an other thread.

Project Management Forum: RE: Helping out...

That's all excellent news!

My goal is to support the "standard" CS gallery API because I am very aware that many people do not have access to their CS server. So I am not looking for custom gallery API's but it would be excellent if it was a part of a service pack or new release. But I'd still try to keep it backwards compatible.

Yes, multithreading is a (near) future addition. However, the first download of pictures will almost for certain be synchronously because you'll need to get the pictures to select one. I have got a cache that keeps the pictures in memory until a refresh is triggered.

For the moment I'd like to keep the development of this plugin to myself because I am nearing a stable release that might be featured on the Live Gallery. Plus I expect WLW to change a lot before it is released. Especially the GUI might need a serious renovation.

Thanks for your info on the CS Gallery API. Feel free to pick up the sources and develop an addition or change and I will review it.

Project Management Forum: Helping out...

Hey,

Im Duncan and would love to help out with your project. I had actually just started writing up my own plugin and they came across your opensource one. Since you already have a user base I thought it would be pointless to release a second plugin.

I wrote the CS Gallery Manager, so I know the gallery service quite well. One thing this plugin desperately needs is threading, and using gallery service methods where you can control the thumbnails data coming down, cause its just too slow.

I am working together with Kevin Harder from telligent on making the gallery service better. So any additional features we create should make it into CS3.0

BTW the uploading bug with the gallery service is fixed in my gallery service extenstion and the fix will be in the CS 2.1 service pack which is coming soon.

Cheers,
